Safety Tips

Be Aware of Carbon Monoxide

It is important to your safetly that you have a carbon monoxide detector on each floor of your home. While gas fireplaces are designed to prevent the buildup of carbon monoxide, it is better to be safe in case there is a problem. It is also important to ensure that the flu and ventilation are functioning properly on your fireplace.

Tune-up Your Fireplace Each Year

Gas and pellet fireplaces are a great way to heat up your home in the winter. Just like your vehicle, they need regular maintenance to keep functioning properly. Be sure to get a yearly inspection by a qualified service technician before the first time you fire it up for the winter months.

Check Clearance Zones

Fireplaces, stoves and inserts become very hot while operating and stay hot even after the fire is out. Not only is the front of the unit hot, but the sides and top will als be hot. It is important to keep flammable material away from the glass and firebox. Check with the manufacturer to see how much safety area is required around your fireplace or stove.

Keep Little Hands And Paws At A Safe Distance

Warn children of the danger of fireplaces and teach them how to be safe around hot fireplaces and stoves. Help to keep children and pets away from the fireplace by using screens and barriers.

Always Follow Manufacturers Instructions

Refer to the manufacturers instructions on cleaning, maintaining and operating your gas, wood, or pellet stove or fireplace.
